Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda’s Capital City
Upon landing at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your Kalama Safaris representative, Sam. He’ll assist with the formalities and provide a smooth private transfer to the Kigali Serena Hotel. The rest of the day or evening is yours to check in, unwind, and shake off any travel fatigue. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing dinner at the hotel as you settle into the gentle rhythm of Rwanda.
Days 2 Visit Genocide Museum – Drive to Volcanoes National Park
Start your day with a ride through Kigali and a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. This powerful site offers a moving opportunity for reflection on Rwanda’s history and remarkable journey of healing. Afterward, you’ll drive north for approximately 2–3 hours toward Volcanoes National Park, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant en route. The scenic journey winds through rolling green hills and beautifully terraced farmland, revealing Rwanda’s legendary “Land of a Thousand Hills” as you draw closer to the Virunga Mountains.
Day 3 Hike in Volcanoes National Park to Visit a Gorilla Family
You’ll have an early start for the highlight of your Rwanda safari — mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After a detailed briefing and registration, you’ll set off on a guided hike (lasting anywhere from 1 to 6 hours) through misty bamboo forests and rugged terrain with experienced trackers. Once a habituated gorilla family is located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing these majestic primates up close in their natural environment. Return to the Farm House for lunch followed by shopping for souvenirs.
Day 4 Go Golden Monkey Trekking – Fly to Nairobi
In Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, you’ll go golden monkey trekking. These rare, playful primates with their bright golden coats leap acrobatically through bamboo forests and dense vegetation in the Virunga Mountains. Accompanied by experienced trackers, you’ll spend one enchanting hour with a habituated troop, watching them forage and play in the treetops. Lighter and more active than gorilla trekking, it’s a delightful highlight for nature lovers and photographers. After lunch, drive back to Kigali for an evening flight to Nairobi, Kenya to connect with the next tour.
